“I mostly buy Chocolates, candy, and other things like stuffed toys” Said Morton East Junior Samuel Garcia.

Morton East Staff had a similar opinion.

“We usually go out and have dinner at a very fancy restaurant downtown” Said Security Guard Louis.

On this occasion, Morton East student had a much different outlook.

“I prefer to stay at home and relax with my family instead of going out to eat or buy candy” Said Morton East Senior Jose Gonzalez

In addition, most students at Morton either don’t spend any money on Valentine’s Day, or they spend around $30 on gifts for their friends.

According to the CDC and Social Security Administrations estimated that 10,408 babies are born in November after being conceived on Valentine’s Day . This number seems surprising, in fact September actually wins first place in most babies born, averaging upwards 11,000 babies on a annual basis.

A few interviews were done with friends and administrator’s about sex on Valentine’s Day.

When asked, what are your thoughts about sex on Valentine’s day they responded with, “Don’t do it,” Journalism teacher Mr. Frankfother said boldly.

Another interview question asked was, what advice would you give too teens on Valentine’s Day?

They stated,”A movie/dinner might cost a bit more, but still cheaper than a baby,” Journalism teacher Mr. Frankfother advises.

The last question asked in the interview was, if pregnancies do go up on Valentine’s Day how can we prevent these from happening again?

Valentine’s Day break-ups http://mortonponyexpress.com/student-life/2020/02/17/valentines-day-break-ups/ http://mortonponyexpress.com/student-life/2020/02/17/valentines-day-break-ups/#comments Mon, 17 Feb 2020 07:02:31 +0000 http://mortonponyexpress.com/?p=16396 How many people break up on Valentine’s Day?

According to Today.yougov.com, 18-34-year old’s (12%) is the age where most breakup on valentine’s Day. They also say that more than one-third (35%) say they did so because they didn’t want to have to fake happiness / Romance if they weren’t feeling it. www.wikihow.com said, though it’s best not to linger in a relationship when you know things aren’t going to work out, you may want to break with the person a week or two after the holiday, or even better, break up with her before Valentine’s Day, so he/she can return presents or cancel any plans he/she may have made for the two of you. (In a random survey of 100 Morton East students, 40 students reported that it is a good idea to break up on Valentine’s Day.)

“Being catholic, this day is to celebrate saint valentine but the mainstream has turned it to giving a gift to someone.” Morton East Mechanic teacher Mark Yunker said.

Most people see Valentine’s Day as a day where we meet up with our loved ones but sometimes revealing your inner feelings to someone can end up on the worn way.

“Valentine’s Day is like the moment of spreading the love but I think sometimes it could be awkward because some people get rejected by their crush,” Senior student Jonathan Zepeda said.

Others see Valentine’s day as a day to spend time with our family and friends, they believe it is not only about love but about family.

“No, because Valentine days is not only about love but also about family and friends” Sophomore student Arizbeth Gallegos said.

What is the best movie to watch on Valentine’s Day? http://mortonponyexpress.com/arts-and-entertainment/2020/02/17/what-is-the-best-movie-to-watch-on-valentines-day/ http://mortonponyexpress.com/arts-and-entertainment/2020/02/17/what-is-the-best-movie-to-watch-on-valentines-day/#respond Mon, 17 Feb 2020 07:01:45 +0000 http://mortonponyexpress.com/?p=16401 Valentine’s Day is coming and you’re probably wondering what the best movie to watch with your honey is.

According to History.com, Valentine’s Day comes from this ancient Rome saint named Saint Valentines. This source states, “When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death”. This is the reason why Valentine’s Day was named after this roman Saint. Interesting facts about Valentine’s Day is that every year, more than 36 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolates are sold across the country. Another interesting fact is that on February 14th is the second-largest card giving day of the year, just after Christmas. It’s estimated that the U.S. alone is going to spend $3.3 billion on flowers for loved ones this year. In a random survey of 100 Morton East Students, 45 students choose The Great Gatsby, 25 students choose The Fault in Our Stars, 15 students choose The Notebook, 10 students choose To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and 5 students choose Paper Towns.

“The Great Gatsby, it’s my go-to movie to watch because I love the plot and the development of the characters through the movie,” Senior Julie Martinez said.

We totally agree with her because this movie involves love, crime, and mystery. This is a great movie to watch on Valentine’s Day.

“If I’m home alone in Valentine’s Day ill most likely be watching The Fault in our Stars. It’s sad but it’s a good love story,” Junior Melissa Orozco said.

This movie has an interesting twist, after all, it’s a great movie and well recommend it to anyone.

“My go-to movie is The Notebook because it’s a great love story,” Junior Julie Alvarez said.

All the movies we listed are great and amazing love stories. The Notebook is another great movie because the plot and the way it turns out it’s the best.

V-Day: half boo, half No boo http://mortonponyexpress.com/student-life/2020/02/17/v-day-boo-or-no-boo/ http://mortonponyexpress.com/student-life/2020/02/17/v-day-boo-or-no-boo/#comments Mon, 17 Feb 2020 06:59:09 +0000 http://mortonponyexpress.com/?p=16398 Half of us may be alone this Valentine’s Day.

This year, Americans are expected to spend $19.7 billion on Valentine’s Day, according to the National Retail Federation. The five most common items purchased for the holiday and their average prices, according to Bankrate, are a box of chocolates ($15.11), diamond earrings ($323.26), a dozen roses ($41.66), dinner for two ($80.46), and a bottle of champagne ($51.54). Fifty-three percent of single people are women and 47% are men. In a random survey of 93 Morton East students, 50.5% of students reported spending Valentine’s day alone.

The students spending the day alone already have some sort of plan.

“Probably just stay at home and do homework or something,” said junior Daniel.

While others enjoy doing absolutely nothing.

“I’ll be spending Valentine’s Day sleep,” said senior Isabella

But someone has a very memorable day ahead of them.

Currently I have a fantastic evening planned with my kids and husband to go to the hospital to visit my niece and her son,”  said school counselor Monica Melendez.

On the other hand, the ideal date for students can vary

“I would want just myself in front of my tv and some peace and quiet,”  said school counselor Monica Melendez.

While another student likes to take it a little old school.

“I would go and get milkshakes somewhere,” said junior Daniel.

Roses and chocolates team up this V-Day http://mortonponyexpress.com/student-life/2020/02/17/roses-and-chocolates-team-up-this-v-day/ http://mortonponyexpress.com/student-life/2020/02/17/roses-and-chocolates-team-up-this-v-day/#comments Mon, 17 Feb 2020 06:57:48 +0000 http://mortonponyexpress.com/?p=16405 Most East couples will get both roses AND chocolates this year.

According to Proflowers.com “The U.S buys more than 1 billion roses each year”. They buy the roses to be sold in the first week of February because of Valentine’s Day. According to eater.com “1.7 Billion will be spent on candy alone”. This refers to the number of heart chocolates people will spend on Valentine’s Day. The website also mentioned how Roses and Chocolates are the most sold during this season of love, yet what is more preferable for couples to buy. It’s the time of showing love and gratitude but do girls or couples rather have both gifted, Chocolates and Roses? In a random survey of 100 Morton East students, 76 students reported that they will gift their valentine both Chocolates and Roses as their show of love.

“Today’s generation people just celebrate it to show off. There is no actual love showcasing behind it. It was meant to be the day of lovers to express and open up to their loved ones!,” junior Jose Torres said.

People should express themselves about their love. Fifty-three percent of single people are women and 47% are men. If you don’t want to express fake love to someone just be your own Valentine. Who says you can’t be your Valentine? In 2015, 18% of women sent themselves flowers.

“Well according to me it’s a really special day for couples to express their feelings. Love needs a day for recognition. Love is something that should be valued, although love is something that should be valued every day. We need to give love a day to be celebrated. Valentines Day is a time to honor, love, respect, and care for our loved ones. If there is no Valentine’s day how will people know they are loved by someone special,” senior Viviana Ocon said.

It’s estimated that the U.S. alone is going to spend $3.3 billion on flowers for loved ones this year. And the most likely flower to be purchased is red roses of course. Valentine’s day is for people who do and don’t have someone to love but you always have your family. Even if someone else rejects you, there is always someone else.

“My girlfriend loves both roses and chocolates so of course, I will spoil her with both”, junior Erick Dominguez said.

Roses stand for strong romantic flowers they are flowers of love. The chocolate box has been around for more than 140 years. And there’s a standout favorite in every box. According to the National Confectioners Association, caramels are the most popular flavor in chocolate boxes.

“I think Valentine’s Day has become a crassly excuse for phony romanticism. Couples treat each other like shit for the other 364 days of the year and expect a miracle of love on one particular day. People should just work harder at being nice to one another always, not just for one day a year,” sophomore Esteban Gonzalez said.

You don’t need a particular day to express your feelings to someone. Many people want to experience a relationship in its stead of conducting or trying to remain in one. People fake to prove they’re in for the long haul. In reality, they’re just exploring.

“Roses and chocolates can never be missed on Valentine’s Day! I hope I receive these gifts from my crush I’m excited about this date,” sophomore Alondra Reynaga said.

They will also be selling them during all lunch periods.  Ms. Michau, adviser of Bible Club and of the carnation fundraiser plans on using the money she raised for the starving children.

“Carnations are only 1$,” Morton Staff Ms.Michau said.

Some students think this is a good price for them and it’s a good way to tell someone you like them.
